AMD A520 CHIPSET

In the AMD investor report it mentioned the well known B550 but this time AMD introduced the A520 which is intended to replaced the aging A320.

The new A520 chipset for socket AM4 is the latest addition to the AMD 500 Series chipset family providing a streamlined, trusted platform to satisfy everyday PC users. These AMD 500 Series motherboards including the new A520 provide essential performance for 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen processors and beyond. The AMD Ryzen 3000XT Series processors also come with unbeatable platform support, compatible with all motherboards equipped with a Ryzen 3000-ready BIOS, including day one support on the entire 500 series chipset families.

The AMD A520 is intended for the Athlon 3000G for the low end of the market. The A520 also does not support PCIe 4.0 speeds. PCIe 3.0 is adequate for 99% of users. The faster speed is more useful for a corporate server.

Combined with an entry level discrete video card such as the RX 550, the low end A520 with 3000G can provide some basic gaming at up to 1920×1080. Some games may be more playable at 1280×720.

The A520 will largely be seen on µATX motherboards. Extra value features will be the main differential in the marketplace. Some motherboards may offer integrated Wi-Fi which will be popular.

Mostly likely A520 motherboards will be available in September or October as the shift into the fall unfolds. Starting prices of $70 to $130 will vary depending on features. Very few buy the stripped down bottom motherboard.
